Foot Pain Symptoms – Poor foot mechanics

Foot pain symptoms from past injuries.

There are four major reasons why patients with foot pain symptoms show up at Life Reset Chiropractic (see ‘Foot pain – Chiropractic‘). This blog post is an expansion on the second one involving foot pain, ‘Poor Foot Mechanics’. Your body is this amazing adapting machine. Your body doesn’t focus on resolving your latest pain. Your body doesn’t even care that you have chronic pain, muscle spasms or even sore feet. The main goal of your body is whether you live or die. It’s all about compensating and adapting for the latest foot injuries, ankle injuries, knee injuries, low back strain and staying alive.

Pain is not life threatening to the body; however, pain can drain the life right out of you. So how can you address your pain to create a permanent solution?

Injuries increase compensation patterns.

Chronic pain results from a collection of body changes (adaptations/compensations) from every slip, fall, injury, sports injury, car accident or trauma you have ever had from infancy to adult. Unless you intentionally do a body therapy to specifically reverse the effects of all of your foot injuries, ankle injuries, knee injuries, hip injuries and back injuries your body will mechanically adapt and change.

There are very specific ways to reverse these old chronic pain patterns which Dr. Debbie Thompson at Life Reset Chiropractic in Loveland, CO provides for you: Chiropractic, exercise and nutrition are all part of that chronic pain reversal to reverse the negative affects of injury.

Rehabilitation is key to reversing the effects of injuries & minimizing adaptations & poor foot/body mechanics. Chiropractic adjustments to the spine, feet, knees, hips, shoulders, etc. help to reset your normal joint movements & neurological connections.

The brain gets stuck in a pain pattern of information. Have you ever written a computer program or known someone who has? I was a computer science major at Colorado State University. A computer loop is when the same information shows up over and over again. The computer program never moves beyond the loop.

A computer loop creates a non-functioning program. Chronic pain loops around from the brain to the painful body part. It does not go away without re-programming it in some way.

Your feet mechanically change with the same adapting process. Foot pain can affect how you walk and how you walk is affected by foot pain. Your walk and posture changes to adapt for injury.

Have you ever noticed someone with a limp due to pain? Immediately after a limp begins the feet start to adapt and change. This change can happen by using crutches temporarily or wearing a therapeutic boot on one foot for several days to weeks. Your whole body starts adapting and compensating. Foot mechanics become abnormal. The result can be foot and/or ankle pain.

If your car is not realigned after an accident would you expect the tires to wear normally. Hip & knee joints are like the tires on your car. One they are balanced out there is less wear & tear. You have far less chances of needing a knee or hip replacement.

A subluxation is the mechanical combination of abnormal joint movement, irritated nerves and imbalanced muscles. Muscles that are imbalanced cause abnormal biochemical changes. Subluxations can also contain chemical imbalances or irritations.

Life Reset Chiropractic evaluates your whole body for abnormal joint function or called subluxations in chiropractic alternative medicine. Adjustments directly to your feet in addition to your spine will start to reverse the effects of compensation to sports injuries, car accidents, concussions and traumas.

Dr. Thompson talks about two other common reasons foot pain shows up in other Life Reset Chiropractic blog posts.

Foot pain – Poor nerve supply

Need the correct brain info to feet

There are four major reasons why patients with foot pain show up at Life Reset Chiropractic (see ‘Foot pain – Chiropractic‘). Here’s an expansion on the first one involving foot pain: Subluxations/Poor Nerve Supply. Your Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord, nerve roots, peripheral nerves) supplies every muscle, organ, gland and cell of your body. There is a specific amount of nervous system information that has to be in place in order for your body to function normally. Without the brain connection every muscle, organ and gland does not know what to do.

Each of us are athletes in life. It takes less energy to run a fine tuned body.

Brain is like a power strip

Imagine your brain as a high level power strip. It not only plugs into every muscle, organ and gland, but there is also a volume control on each connection. The volume of electricity or energy from your brain to your leg muscles could be turned down really low. You would experience weak leg muscles, lack of coordination, inability to build muscles up and so much more. The final branch of nerves to the foot and ankle are located in the lower part of the spinal cord. This is called the lumbosacral area.

Foot = 26 bones & 33 joints

In the foot, there are 26 bones (28 if you count the sesamoid bones at the base of the big toe). There are 33 major joints. Each normal joint performs movements in multiple directions. Normal joint movements stimulate the foot and ankle for healthy circulation, nerve flow and balance.

Normal joint movement creates a clear flow of nerve system information. Your balance and coordination are strengthened. You trust your movements. You are more confident moving through life. You are better at whatever sport you choose. Chiropractic adjustments coupled with specific exercises fine tunes your body’s balance from the foundation of the feet up. You operate at your peak performance no matter if you are an athlete or an athlete in life. You will play at the top of your game: soccer, baseball, basketball, running, hiking, biking, dancing, golf, climbing just to mention a few. Clear strong normal brain information connects to your feet and ankles.

Athletes maximize their peak performance and strength with regular chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments to the feet, ankles, knees and hips give athletes a new competitive edge & personal best.

Chiropractors focus on abnormal joint movement which chiropractors call subluxations. When joints do not move normally this affects the complete nervous system. Every muscle, organ and gland is affected. Some chiropractors focus on adjusting the spine only. Other holistic chiropractors focus on the whole body which includes feet, ankles, knees, hips, hands, wrists and shoulders. There’s also a specific chiropractic technique that addresses the cranium (skull). This chiropractic adjusting technique is called SOT (Sacro Occiptal Technique). This technique focuses very closely to cranial sacral work with massage therapists. The full definition of a subluxation is the combination of abnormal joint movement, abnormal body chemistry, irritated nerves and imbalanced muscles. Muscles that are imbalanced due to abnormal biochemical changes. Subluxations can also contain chemical imbalances or irritations.

Best Chiropractor: Screen your perspective chiropractor

Screen over the phone firstSave your time by getting some of your initial questions answered over the phone. Decide what are ‘deal breaking’ questions for you and ask those questions when making your phone calls. If you are looking for subtle gentle techniques that do not involve the ‘noise’ then ask if they provide that type of care. If you’ve had a work or auto injury be sure to ask the office if they accept injury cases.

When searching for a new dentist in Seattle my ‘deal breaking’ question was “Do you specialize exclusively in amalgum-free dentistry?” If they said ANYTHING other than ‘Yes’ I went on to the next phone call to the next office.

If you are at this stage it won’t be long and you’ll have your chiropractic appointment to address your foot or ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain or many other possible chronic pain patterns you have been experiencing.

The articles that follow will help you find a chiropractor that matches your goals and needs.

Best Chiropractor: Meets your health goals & needs

Become a critical researcherYou may be looking for a new chiropractor or this may be your first time. A really important skill for all research is to be a critical researcher or critical thinker.

This doesn’t mean you are being critical. It means you are taking all factors in consideration before you make your choice.

If you’ve never seen a chiropractor before you may have tried many things for your foot pain, ankle pain, hip pain, shoulder pain or chronic pain condition, but ‘giving it time’ seems to be the most common. In the meantime, the pain continues to haunt you and it’s getting in the way of doing the things you love.

The famous last words that walk through chiropractic offices everyday is “I thought it would go away.” Whether you have back pain, foot pain, neck and shoulder pain or numbness/tingling in your hands, chiropractic could be a really great choice for you right now.

When most people think of chiropractic they only think of the traditional chiropractic adjustments which is usually a physical turn, a twist and there’s the noise from the joint releasing. It’s important to know that there are 250+ other techniques.

Track your research

  • Have a dedicated notebook for your thoughts & research
  • Use the internet or phone book to find chiropractors in your area

Who are you looking for?

  • Male or female?
  • How long have they been in practice?
  • Do they require Xrays?
  • Where are they located?
  • What are their hours?
  • How soon can you get in?
  • Do they work with athletes? Children? 65 & older?
  • Do they do focused work on feet & knees?
  • Do they do focused work on hands, wrists & shoulders?
  • Do they accept injury cases?
  • Do they accept work related injuries?
  • Do they bill insurance?
  • If no insurance then do they have special cash programs?

Follow the word of mouth. Ask your friends or family who they would recommend. Remember if you ultimately don’t connect with the chiropractor they recommend then find someone who works for you. It’s so important to find the chiropractor that matches your needs.

You’ve came this far. Keep reading if chiropractic seems like a good fit for feeling your very best again. Choosing a natural approach that matches your body’s physiology will give you a brand way to address your foot or ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain or many other possible chronic pain patterns.

Chiropractic adjustments do not work

“One adjustment please”. Are you someone who thinks one or two chiropractic adjustment treatments should magically take care of your old chronic back pain that’s been there for years? You may even had the experience of 1-2 chiropractic adjustments for your headaches, foot pain, ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, low back pain, neck and shoulder pain or other chronic pain. How did that work for you? Is your chronic pain still hanging out with you? If your pain is still there you may be someone who says “chiropractic doesn’t work”.

Being lured in by the media can happen so easily because they (especially those infomercials) are very good at what they do; convincing us that we need what they have to sell.

No time for pain. Welcome to being human being in the middle of our microwave mentality. You have places to go and things to do. No one really has time for pain. The reason magic is when the decision is made by patients who are so sick and tired of their old chronic pain are willing to do ANYTHING to get their active pain-free lives back. In the meantime, the media doesn’t mess around. They are always convincing us what is better and how that should look. I have fallen for it at times. You have fallen for it. I personally know what it’s like to be romanced by the latest information about a lotion, potion or magic pill that handles my specific issue or need of the day.

End your painful suffering?. Most likely if you are reading this article you have chronic physical pain that doesn’t want to go away. Please take the time to become educated on how chiropractic can help you reach your health and wellness goals. Be an informed consumer. Chiropractic supports your body’s natural physiology. Chiropractic accesses your body’s natural healing capacity from the core via the nervous system…the electrical energy system of your body. Chiropractors call this core ‘the innate’.

No one should tolerate pain. There are so many ways using alternative medicine to end your chronic headaches, foot pain, ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain or many other possible chronic pain patterns.

This the the first article of five that will help you choose a chiropractor that matches your goals and needs.

You may start with neck & shoulder pain, hip pain, sciatic nerve pain,
foot pain symptoms, ankle pain, arm muscle pain or any other chronic pain…
