Best thing to do… I know I know… Ugh! If you are like me you you like the taste of highly refined sugars. Removing candies, cakes, cookies, muffins, donuts, high sugar drinks, etc is not easy. The ‘feel good’ benefits waiting for you are nothing short of miraculous!
Sugar Detox: The first few days are the most challenging. Your sugar eating habit has probably been in place for awhile. You literally have a physical groove in your brain that matches up with your cravings. It’s time to reprogram your entire system physically, mentally and emotionally. It is not unusual to experience several body detox symptoms and discomforts: ongoing cravings, blood sugar ups/downs, headaches, body aches, nausea, constipation, tiredness and more. You may be tempted to breakdown to eat sugar, but just hang in there. The prize of feeling so much better is coming!
How long will it take to feel the difference? The time it takes before you start feeling better is different for each individual. It depends on several factors. Here are just a few:
- How much sugar you have been consuming.
- How long you have had the sugar habit.
- How out of control you blood sugar is.
- If you have early stages of Diabetes.
- Your emotional ties to sugar.
- The ‘Whys’ you eat sugar.
“But sugar cravings & blood sugar issues run in my family.” Challenges with food choices, sugar cravings, being overweight or balancing blood sugar is not a genetic challenge. When we blame something or someone for our current circumstance it just sticks around longer. How you eat did get programmed into your habits. Your habits are programmed into your brain. You learned your habits from your family. You were taught how to eat, what to eat, how much to eat and why you eat. Want a whole new Wellness Lifestyle? It’s time to reprogram yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.
Best thing to do when blood sugar drops. You may be someone who grabs for a candy bar or soda pop when you blood sugar levels drop. Yes, it works in the moment, but your blood sugar will drop again sooner rather than later. The highly refined sugars cause your blood sugar to shoot up rapidly. BEST CHOICE: Eat an egg, 2 Tablespoons cottage cheese or about 1 ounce of some other protein (fish, chicken, beef, pork, etc.). Protein will balance your blood sugar slowly and consistently. Overtime your blood sugar will become balanced and predictable.
Will removing highly refined sugars be worth it? It’s totally worth it if you want to turn loose of your fear of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and much more. Hang in there. Put one foot in front of the other each day. Get ready to indulge in living in your stronger, more active and more vital body!
